I'm Justin Raines
Hi, I’m Justin Raines — a Grammy Award-winning bassist and the founder of JRaines Lessons. For more than 20 years, I’ve toured the world, recorded with legendary artists, and now, I’m here to help you grow as a musician no matter where you’re starting from.
My Story
I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, where my love for music started in high school. I picked up the bass in 10th grade and quickly fell in love with the instrument. Music became my foundation, leading me to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, where my professional journey truly began.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of performing with artists like Israel Houghton, Ne-Yo, CeCe Winans, Tasha Cobbs-Leonard, Donnie McClurkin, Musiq Soulchild, JoJo, and many more. My career has taken me across Africa, Asia, Europe, South America, the Caribbean, and all throughout the United States. Those experiences shaped not only my playing but also my passion for sharing music with others.

Why I Do It
While touring and recording has been an incredible journey, my heart has always been in teaching. I believe music is more than notes — it’s a way to build confidence, discipline, and joy. JRaines Lessons was created to make high-quality, professional bass instruction accessible to anyone, anywhere.
My mission is simple: to give you the tools, guidance, and encouragement you need to become the best version of yourself as a musician. Whether you’re picking up the bass for the first time or looking to refine your skills, I’m here to walk with you every step of the way.
